Carlota has been an artist throughout her entire life. She specialized in design at the Escuela de Bellas Artes de la Universidad del Atlántico, in Barranquilla, Colombia, and is a graduate of the Graphic Design Program at Taller 5 Centro de Diseño, Bogota Colombia.
 From 1978-1980 she worked in Italy, designing silk prints for Versace, Como, through Studio Loris Ribolzi, Varese, and began her journey in the world of jewellery doing illustrations for GEM Montebello, Milano. 

She returned to Colombia, where she worked as the jewellery designer for Arcana Oro, creating unique collections and custom designs for the following two decades, mastering her craft and taking on apprentices of her own. 

In the year 2000, she resided in Panama City, Panama, where she had continued designing under her own name, and through Alphonse de la Forêt. There that she founded Carlota Bentham Jewelry, with its registered brand, and created several collections each year. She taught several workshops in Jewellery design in her own studio, and established her brand internationally. 
These days, Carlota spends most of her time in Colombia, where she returned in 2010 to care for her mother, while regularly traveling with her creations for international shows in Panama, the USA and Europe.
